Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is Qualcomm’s flagship chip for 2024 phones, which will probably be introduced later this year. Like other Snapdragon models, the chip will be built on ARM’s popular architecture, but a leaker in China says the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will go for a new architecture (Orion cores).
Most likely, the configuration of CPU cores in Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be similar to Apple’s A-series processors. According to a whistleblower on the Weibo social network, the Qualcomm processor in question has 6 low-power cores and uses two powerful cores.
Ditching the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 core and other flagship cores in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will help Qualcomm build a processor to better compete with Apple with just two powerful cores. One of Apple’s advantages over its competitors is powerful cores. Apple processors always excel in single-core processing.
The combination of two high-power cores with 6 low-consumption cores leads to the production of a processor that has tremendous power when necessary and consumes little energy under normal conditions to provide perfect charging for the phone. Probably Snapdragon 8 generation 4 will be produced with N3E lithography (3nm class).
